About the Role
We are seeking a Mid-Level Architectural Lighting Designer with 3–7 years of professional experience to join our award-winning lighting design studio in Manhattan.
This role is ideal for a designer who is ready to take on greater ownership of projects and play a key role in delivering innovative lighting solutions across architectural, interior, and landscape environments.
You will be actively involved in all phases of the design process—from concept development through construction administration and final aiming—while collaborating with some of the most respected architectural firms in the world.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to all phases of lighting design, from concept through installation and final aiming

Develop creative lighting concepts aligned with client vision, budget, and technical standards

Prepare and present design concepts and documentation to clients and design teams

Perform lighting calculations, fixture research, mockups, and technical analysis

Produce comprehensive documentation including:

Lighting plans and layouts

Fixture schedules
-
Details and specifications
-
Lighting controls integration
-

Coordinate with architects, interior designers, landscape architects, and engineers

Attend client meetings, site visits, and construction coordination meetings

Oversee portions of projects and mentor junior designers when appropriate

Participate in on-site focusing and lighting controls programming
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Lighting Design, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or related field

3–7 years of professional experience in architectural lighting design

Strong portfolio demonstrating built work and design process

Proficiency in:
-
AutoCAD and/or Revit
-
3D modeling software (Rhino, SketchUp, etc.)

Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

Strong understanding of:
-
Lighting systems, controls, and detailing
-
Architectural coordination and construction documentation

Excellent communication and presentation skills
-
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with high-profile or international projects
-
Familiarity with lighting calculations software (AGi32, Dialux, etc.)

Experience mentoring junior staff

Strong design narrative and storytelling ability
