Project Architect (10+ Years Experience)

K–12 / NYS SED Projects
Syracuse, NY | Regional NYS Travel Required

This architectural firm is seeking an accomplished Project Architect with 10+ years of experience to lead the technical delivery and consultant coordination of K–12 public school projects across New York State. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, mentoring teams, and guiding projects from concept through construction.

As a senior technical leader, you will partner closely with the Project Manager while serving as a trusted day-to-day contact for school districts, consultants, and construction partners.


What You’ll Do

  • Lead project execution in alignment with scope, budget, schedule, and client objectives

  • Direct the organization, development, and quality of comprehensive drawing sets

  • Independently coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams across all project phases

  • Oversee integration of codes, NYS Building Code requirements, and SED standards into all documentation

  • Prepare and present project materials to clients, school boards, district administrators, and community stakeholders

  • Lead specification coordination and editing to ensure consistency between drawings and written documents

  • Support preparation of SED submission packages, including narratives, forms, cost estimates, and full documentation sets

  • Execute and uphold QA/QC standards throughout all phases of work

  • Conduct site observations, lead construction meetings, and produce clear field reports

  • Review submittals and respond to RFIs with clarity and timeliness

  • Mentor designers and emerging professionals through hands-on leadership and technical guidance

  • Foster strong, collaborative relationships with clients, consultants, and project partners

  • Model professionalism, clear communication, and resilience in fast-paced project environments


What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, RA Registered Architect Prefered

  • 10+ years of professional experience, including significant K–12 or institutional project work

  • Demonstrated expertise in NYS codes, SED processes, and educational facility standards

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including client-facing presentations

  • Proven experience managing project documentation, schedules, budgets, and consultant coordination

  • Ability to travel within New York State; must be located within driving distance of NYS projects
